2017 Ford F-150 vs 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 near Wilmington, DE

When you're shopping for a pickup to meet your diverse needs, check out the 2017 Ford F-150 and the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500! These ultra-capable options highlight unique features like the Ford F-150's Pro Trailer Backup Assist system, impressively quick Sync 3 infotainment system and off-road-ready all-terrain Raptor. The unchanged, trusty competence of the GMC Sierra remains, and it is again a twin to the Chevrolet Silverado, only distinguished by its exterior accents, badging details and higher price tag.

2017 Ford F-150 Power & Handling

The 2017 Ford F-150 features a redesigned turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine, paired with a 10-speed brand-new transmission, that delivers 282 horsepower and 253 pound-feet of torque. The next option is a turbocharged 2.7-liter V6, producing 325 horsepower and 375 lb-ft of torque. Another option is a 5.0-liter V8 engine, capable of generating 387 pound-feet of torque and 385 horsepower. The off-road-ready Raptor features a high-output turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 engine that provides 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque. Any engine offered on the 2017 Ford F-150 is available on the base work trim, allowing greater versatility. The three cab styles are paired with three bed lengths: a 5.5-foot, a 6.5-foot bed and an 8-foot bed. The truly-capable 2017 Ford F-150 is a fantastic pickup capable of towing up to 10,500 pounds!

2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Power & Handling

The 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 also features three cab styles and three bed-lengths, though the base trim is only offered with a regular cab or double cab, and the crew cab is reserved for higher levels. The bare-bone base trim comes with a 4.3-liter V6 engine, though that can be upgraded to a 5.3-liter V8. The 4.3-liter engine delivers 285 horsepower and 305 pound-feet of torque, while the 5.3-liter provides 355 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. The GMC Sierra is a four-wheel drive vehicle. Capable of towing a maximum capacity of 9,400 pounds, the GMC Sierra is a functional option, but doesn't reach the power outputs found on the 2017 Ford F-150, falling short on horsepower, torque and towing.

2017 Ford F-150 Features & Design

The 2017 Ford F-150 is offered in seven unique trim levels: the base XL, the XLT, the Lariat, the King Ranch, the Platinum, the Limited and the off-road ready Raptor. Each level adds exciting enhancements, starting with the XL, which features vinyl flooring, a tilt-and-telescoping steering wheel, air-conditioning, automatic headlights, and 17-inch steel wheels. Additionally, the XL trim features a four-speaker radio, a 4.2-inch central display screen, a driver information display, pre-wired trailer connections and trailer sway controls. The XL trim also features optional packages, which add remote locking and unlocking features, a bigger driver information screen, Bluetooth- and USB-smartphone-app-integration, power mirrors and cruise controls. The XLT trim adds the XL's optional Technology Package, and receives a keypad entry system, additional interior storage bins and pockets, rear privacy glass and chrome exterior trim. The XLT's options include a rearview camera, a cargo management system, a trailer hitch, rear under-seat storage, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and a seven-speaker sound system. The XLT trim's Luxury package adds an 8-inch touchscreen with Sync 3, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, LED bed lighting, remote ignition systems, rear parking sensors, a power-sliding rear window, a 110-volt power outlet, and an additional USB port. The 2017 Ford F-150's Lariat builds on the features found above, adding an 8-inch driver information display with expanded capabilities, keyless entry and ignition, leather upholstery, dual-zone automatic climate control, ambient lighting and 18-inch wheels. The King Ranch trim features a Western styling theme, while the Platinum trim includes wood and aluminum interior trim, power-deployable running boards and 20-inch wheels. The top-range Limited adds unique styling details and many optional features as standard. Finally, the Raptor gets a special four-wheel-drive system, flared fenders, upgraded off-road tires, a long-travel suspension and optional forged, bead-lock capable wheels.

2017 GMC Sierra 1500 Features & Design

There are four trim levels offered on the 2017 GMC Sierra 1500: the base, the SLE, the SLT and the Denali. The 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 is a bare-boned truck, even at the "luxury" levels. The features are well crafted, and the finish is good, but the base trim is very sparse. When you step up to the SLE trim, you receive a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an upgraded infotainment unit, a backup camera and 17-inch aluminum wheels. The SLT trim is standard with the 5.3-liter V8 engine and receives heated leather seats, power-folding and heated mirrors and towing hardware. Optional additions to the SLT include parking alerts and a 6.2-liter V8 engine. The top of the range trim is the Denali, which gets all of the lower trim levels' features, 20-inch wheels, unique interior appointments and Sierra-exclusive Magnetic Ride Control dampers. The 2017 GMC Sierra 1500 is a great option if you need a no-frills work-truck that delivers dependable power!
