2017 Ford Escape vs 2017 Honda CR-V near Wilmington, DE

The crossover SUV class continues to grow as these family-friendly vehicles feature more and more of the technological innovations you and your family desire. The 2017 Ford Escape is a top choice in the field, with style, power and feature upgrades, the option for all-wheel drive, plenty of storage space and extremely-capable towing abilities. Another option for 2017 is the Honda CR-V, a capable SUV that underwent a head-scratching redesign at the height of its popularity. When you're in the market for a vehicle that can handle your family's busy schedules while still delivering versatility and style, you need to look at these exciting options!

2017 Ford Escape Power & Handling

The 2017 Ford Escape receives its power from one of three engine options. The base S trim comes standard with a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine, capable of producing 168 hp and 170 lb-ft of torque. The next trim level, the SE, receives a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine designed to generate 179 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The turbocharged 1.5-liter engine is available as an option on the S trim. The SE and Titanium trims receive their own optional engine, a 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine that provides all-wheel-driving, 275 lb-ft of torque and 245 horsepower. All that power allows a properly equipped 2017 Ford Escape to tow up to 3,500 pounds!

2017 Honda CR-V Power & Handling

The 2017 Honda CR-V receives only two engine options, neither of which matches the top power outputs of the 2017 Ford Escape. The first engine option is a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine, delivering 184 horsepower and 180 lb-ft of torque. The second engine on the 2017 Honda CR-V is a 1.5-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine capable of putting out 190 hp and 179 pound-feet of torque. The turbocharged engine is equipped with remote ignition functions. The more powerful engine is only offered on the upper trim levels, and is not an option for the base trim. The 2017 Honda CR-V can only tow 1,500 pounds.

2017 Ford Escape Features & Design

The 2017 Ford Escape delivers exceptional style and high-tech features across the three graduating trim levels. Standard on the entry level base trim are features like a rearview camera, Bluetooth and USB integration, a height-adjustable driver seat, air-conditioning, a 4.2-inch central display, a six-speaker sound system, and the Sync tech interface with AppLink smartphone integration. The SE features upgraded tech, including a keyless entry keypad, steering-wheel-mounted paddle shifters, dual-zone automatic climate control, an eight-way power-adjustable driver seat and satellite radio. Additionally, the SE includes foglights, a rear center armrest, upgraded cloth upholstery, rear privacy glass, and the 1.5-liter turbocharged engine. The SE can be equipped with the optional 2.0-liter turbocharged engine, rear parking sensors, roof rails, a 110-volt household-style power outlet, a nine-speaker sound system with dual USB ports, the upgraded Sync 3 technology interface, an 8-inch touchscreen, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alerts, and LED daytime running lights as part of the SE Technology package. The top of the line Titanium includes a 10-speaker Sony audio system with HD radio, ambient interior lighting, keyless entry and ignition, an auto-dimming rearview mirror and driver-seat memory settings. An optional package adds automated parallel and perpendicular parking features, a heated steering wheel, lane departure warning and intervention, automatic wipers and xenon headlights with automatic high-beam controls. A navigation system and panoramic sunroof are Optional on the SE and Titanium trims.

2017 Honda CR-V Features & Design

The 2017 Honda CR-V is offered in four trim levels, each with a scattering of features that you'd expect from a vehicle at the CR-V's cost. The base LX lacks any advanced safety features, but includes a 5-inch color LCD screen, which is regrettably not a touchscreen, LED running lights, a height-adjustable driver seat, automatic climate controls, 17-inch alloy wheels, Bluetooth and USB connectivity, a four-speaker audio system and an electronic parking brake. Upgrading to the EX trim adds the1.5-liter engine as standard, and includes a retractable cargo cover, dual-zone automatic climate controls, foglights, remote ignition, 18-inch wheels, heated front seats, satellite radio, an upgraded driver information center, and a body-colored door spoiler and handles. Advanced safety features for the EX trim include automatic emergency braking, adaptive cruise controls, automatic high beams and more. The EX-L adds a programmable-height power liftgate, a power passenger seat which doesn't offer height-adjustments, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, leather upholstery and an optional navigation system not offered for the EX or LX trims. The Touring is the top-of-the-line trim, featuring a subwoofer for the audio system, blue ambient interior lighting, roof rails, LED headlights, automatic wipers and dual chrome exhaust tips. The Touring receives the EX-L's optional navigation system as standard, and the 2017 Honda CR-V is not offered with any standalone features or packages.

Conclusions

Crossover SUVs continue to grow in popularity, and the exciting features found on these fantastic options make it easy to see why! The 2017 Ford Escape is easy to love, with integrated Apple CarPlay and Android Auto services, a standard rearview mirror and easy Bluetooth-pairing. The 2017 Honda CR-V has seen some reports of misdirection by its navigation system, and its touchy interface can be distracting while driving, but it does offer nice sound quality with the top-level-trim's subwoofer. When you need a stylish yet capable SUV that can handle your family, then you need to visit Sheridan Ford!
